Eff/Fabi: Toast

Author's Note: I wrote this chapter collaborating with myself. That is to say, I emailed back and forth between my Fabi address and my M address. The parts that I did are typed normally, while the parts did are in italics. Yes, I am aware that that sounds odd. Too bad.

Fabi turned, planning to dash out for a second and check on Mara and Ember.
Instead, she found herself facing a stone-faced Effie, looking less sickly and holding a...cheese puff? She realized just in time, and jumped back, the swing of the actually-a-sword tearing the collar of her jacket.
"So you weren't lying about Mevolent controlling you."
Effie shrugged, and replied, slightly shocked that the words would come out, "Fabigail, you should know better than to trust any-stinking-thing I say. If I kill you, sorry, nothing personal. If you kill me, then the computer with the top-secret information is behind the mirror, secret panel, use the password. That was a hint." Mevolent was actually letting her say this! That was probably not a good thing, Effie thought. She tried to take it back, but there was something in the secret files that Mevolent wanted Fabi to see, and he was the one in charge.
Fabi didn't exactly get the hint, but she nodded along anyway, edging slowly toward the door. Eff lunged forward blocking her path. "Fabienne S. you have crossed me too many times. Your choices are come willingly or die."
Mevolent had a powerful mind. Even as he was teleporting from America back to Ireland, he still didn't let Eff slip out of his control. She was toast, and so was Fabi.
Fabi snorted and started singing/dancing the skeleton "Off to Death We Go" thingy from the comments in 'Marionette.' "I'd rather not come along and be tortured, thank you very much." If it hadn't been Effie, she wouldn't have dared to reply like that. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing.
Eff was laughing in a profound corner of her subconscious. She was grateful to Fabi for making her last moments as herself funny ones. Mevolent, on the other hand, didn't care. Effvolent (hmm, that sounds like a very evil elephant...) raised the cheese-puff/sword again. Eff watched Fabi stop her ridiculous dance, and decided to try again not to kill her.
Fabi saw the cheese puff raise again and stopped acting like an idiot. At least, she stopped singing and dancing. She didn't actually do anything smart, either. Why had she even bothered trying to appeal to Effie's sense of humor? Effie wasn't even there.
Eff changed the sword from cheese-puff to Darth Vader mask, momentarily perplexing Mevolent. She leapt over to a panel on the wall, and flicked a switch.
That'll give Fabi a fighting chance, she thought as she was forced back again.
Fabi felt the her powers returning. She waved her hand and the wiring behind the switch snapped. It wasn't going to turn the electro-binding spell back on anytime soon. The bobby pins slid out of her hair and became the super-awesome-ninja-sword.
Effvolent attacked again, but Fabi was ready. She sensed the sword in Effie's hands (they still were Effie's hands, even if Mevolent was using them) and dodged or blocked everything. Eff wanted to cheer, but Mevolent made her attack again. She didn't want to attack again! She hadn't wanted to attack in the first place! Sharing space in her head was annoying.
Fabi felt the sword coming. It was so good to have her powers back. She made a note to depend on them less next time. If there was a next time. She parried Effvolent's next two strikes, and ducked under a third, fighting purely defensively. Eff feinted to the left, then droppedher blade suddenly, the block Fabi was anticipating never happening and the super-sharp-ninja-sword slicing through Eff's middle.
Eff doubled over, Mevolent laughing in her head. This is what happens to those who cross him, she thought. I wasn't cooperative enough to actually kill Fabi, and he knew that, so now he's using me to hurt her, making her do it herself.
Effie sunk to the ground "Not...not your fault. Mevolent...he..." she tried to say, but Fabi interrupted.
"He still did it to get at me," she said, too smart for her own good, "because you wouldn't help him willingly... Effie, it is my fault." There were tears in Fabi's eyes as she knelt over her fallen friend. In those last moments, Eff was sure of it. Fabigail had been her friend.

    2. Because Mevolent! Why else?! If it wasn't for Mevolent, all my characters would all be alive, singing and dancing...except Jerry, who would be singing and killing people...

You know what, I really think Eff and EmberTC could've been good friends.
